Veteran candidates that are selected by the organization MUST have a bachelor’s degree. This is an academic merit based grant and the chosen recipient(s) must meet the following criteria:
- Be a veteran or currently enlisted in any of the US military branches of service.
- Have an honorable discharge status or active duty status.
- Maintain a 3.0 GPA average or higher.
- Have completed a minimum of 4 years of service in active duty or reserve.
Do I get the money directly?
Awardees will receive a congratulatory letter of engagement. This letter will also include the disbursement amount and the academic year it will apply to.
Do I have to use my scholarship this school year? Can I save it for another year?
The amount awarded is for the full academic year. It will be disbursed to the university, per semester. It does not roll over into the next academic year.
Is this a one-time scholarship?
No. Candidates can re-apply after each year and be awarded for a maximum of 3 years.
Do I need to reapply each year?
Applicants who are re-applying must submit proof of enrollment and a copy of their financial aid award letter from the university. Enlisted servicemen and women (who are 2nd & 3rd year recipients) also must submit a copy of their DD214.
Can I submit the application for the Spring semester, not the Fall?
Yes. Applicants can apply for either semester.
How much of a scholarship will I receive?
Awardees will receive the full amount to them per semester. (E.g.: if a student is awarded 20,000 for the academic year, he/she will receive a check for 10,000 for each semester issued to the school for tuition costs.)
Is there a cut off date to submit my application?
The last date to submit the application is July 31st.
What materials do I need to submit my application?
Applicants must submit:
- Official undergraduate transcript with conferral degree date
- DD 214 Military Form
- Proof of Enrollment from educational institution
- Financial Aid Award Letter
- A 2-3 page Narrative Essay describing their academic aspirations, future goals and how the grant will assist them in achieving their goals.
- 2nd & 3rd year applicants will submit proof of enrollment, financial aid award letter, and DD214 for active duty members
Can I submit my application online?
Candidates can apply online or download application from our website. The application and supporting materials must be postmarked no later than July 31st. VHEC scholarship application will be available starting January'2016.
When will I know if I received the scholarship?
Award letters will be mailed out by October 1st.

What happens once I get the scholarship?
Selected award recipients can choose to participate in a congratulatory interview with the founder of VHEC. Award recipients may also be featured in VHEC Blog, and facebook editorial articles.
What if I did not receive an honorable discharge?
Unfortunately, you do not qualify.
Can I apply while I am serving?
Yes. Active Duty, Inactive or Active Reserves and other qualified candidates can apply.
What happens if I get called to duty while I am in school?
You must submit a copy of your military orders and your application award status will be placed on hold until you return to your degree program.
The VHEC scholarship fund is a private academic scholarship award.
Is there an age limit for the scholarship?
There is no age limit, VHEC supports applicants regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, class, sex and age.
Does the scholarship apply to international schools?
Unfortunately, at this time, VHEC does not conduct or provide services to international colleges and universities.
Can I give my scholarship to another veteran?
No. However, if you know of other veterans who can benefit from our services, please encourage them to apply.
What types of post-graduate institutions apply for VHEC funding?
All 'institutions' and 'specialized' accredited colleges and universities qualify.
Do I have to live in the United States?
Yes. All applicants must reside in the United States and must be a US citizen or permanent resident when submitting your application.

How do I make a donation?
